The Kiln Supervisor (night shift) directs, oversees, and plans the operation of the production team and environment.  This includes leading a team of 3 FTEs: kiln operator, raw utility operator, and finish utility operator.  The position plans and assigns work, implements policies and procedures and recommends improvements in production methods, equipment, operating procedures and working conditions. This shift is a rolling 3 day schedule - 3 on, 3 off - 7pm - 7am.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Demonstrates a working knowledge in all areas of kiln-related systems.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. This includes interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Monitors and maintains safety and security of employees and site property.
  • Hourly checks include, but not limited to: coal mill water and temperature, girth gear oil and bolts, cooler, pumps, fan vibration, thrust rollers, ponds and burn operator settings.
  • Basic troubleshooting and the ability to make small production repairs.
  • Reports any potential operational or safety problems to management immediately.
  • Maintains and controls inventory and supplies.
  • Strong sense of awareness and can recognize changes to the sounds, sights, and smells in plant environment.  
  • Complies with all company, state and governmental environmental, health and safety regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Fills in for various positions during breaks, absences, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Previous Kiln experience, supervisory/leadership experience in a production environment preferred.
  • High School Diploma, GED Equivalent, or demonstrated skills or ability.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Outdoors all seasons extreme temperatures, precipitation, etc.
  • Unclean
  • Non-tobacco/vapor environment
  • Frequent exposure to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration; heights and dark places.
  • Noise level in work environment and job site can be loud.

The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
